Malaysia is number 2 - as far as sending back dead migrant workers to Bangladesh.. .who died from heart attack... Around 44 percent of the Bangladeshi migrant workers who returned home in coffins between January 1 and May 9 this year, had died of cardiac arrests in Middle Eastern and Southeast Asian countries, raising serious questions about the living standards of migrant workers in those countries.

The plight of foreign spouses have been raised many time.
I have stated that rightfully, when the marriage is registered in Malaysia should be given a PR Status, as of right.
There really is no justification for the present practice of now giving until they have had their 1-year visas for 5 years, and this means that only after 6 years will they get their PR status.

Benefits Should Be Extended to Domestic Workers
(Beirut, May 13, 2009) – Bahrain’s revision of its restrictive kafala (sponsorship) system will dramatically improve the status of most migrant workers and reduce their risk of exploitation, Human Rights Watch said today. But the protections should be extended to migrant domestic workers, who are especially vulnerable to employer abuse, Human Rights Watch said. |

KUALA LUMPUR: Illegal immigrants tend to use Malaysia as a transit point to move to a third country, said Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
The Prime Minister said Malaysia was not considered a destination for the illegal immigrants but they tend to use the country or Indonesia as a prime route to go to other countries. |

LEVY - It should be the Employers of foreign migrant workers that should be paying this levy.
It is SO WRONG for Malaysian Government to allow Employers to deduct this levy from the wages of the foreign workers.
Annual levy is, I believe, RM3,600 for restaurant workers. If their wages is RM500, this means more than 7 months wages just go towards paying levy. Then what - employers also deduct their annual medical check-up fee....and other expenses in bringing the worker to Malaysia (plus also the airfare for their return) - end result. There may be no wages left for the worker...and this is so wrong...Oh yes, they do need to buy food, etc...also |
