Tenaganita proudly launches The Revolving Door

On the evening of Saturday 27 September, Tenaganita proudly launched its book on the experiences of refugees in Malaysia. The book, titled ‘The Revolving Door’ showcases the stories of eight Burmese refugees who were arrested, detained and eventually sold at the border in the modern crime-slavery of trafficking of persons.

The event was attended by 180 people and was graced by the MP for Ampang, Puan YB Zuraida Kamaruddin and Bukit Gasing State Assemblyman Edward Lee.

The reviewer of the book, Mr KJ John of OHMSI had noted that he was duly ‘shocked’ by the stories, the content and analysis and has recommended that further dialogue be held with all parties concerned. We are grateful that the participants spoke well of the book and the project and thank them for their support.

The book would not have been made possible without the courageous efforts of the Burmese people to share the stories of their ordeals with us. We honour the Burmese communities and their esteemed representatives, who during the event, had shared their culture and their dreams with us, as their children rendered a touching song called ‘Heal the world’.

The Revolving Door is the first in a series of books that offers to paint a story by the survivors of trafficking in persons, and also an in-depth analysis of the shortcomings of state policy and geo-political situations that cause trafficking in persons.
